Gavin Newsom admitted last year that putting biological males in women's sports is "deeply unfair."
His own state's community college system did it anyway – and three young women paid the price.
Now the federal government is coming for California, and the school president who cheered it on is in the crosshairs.
Trump's Title IX Task Force Has Santa Rosa on Its List
Madison Shaw had one plan: play volleyball at Santa Rosa Junior College, get recruited, transfer to Chico State.
Simple. Achievable. Gone.
She's currently working three jobs to save for tuition she was supposed to pay with an athletic scholarship.
"It was the only plan I had," Shaw told Fox News Digital.
The reason she lost it: Santa Rosa put a biological male on the women's volleyball team.

Madison wouldn't share a locker room with him, so she sat out her entire sophomore season – no film, no coach visits, no recruiting pipeline to the next level.
Her sister Gracie and teammate Brielle Galli made the same call and paid the same price.
The California Community College Athletic Association allows biological males to compete on women's teams after one year of testosterone suppression.
One year.
That's the entire safeguard standing between your daughter and a biological male spiking a volleyball at her head.
The three women filed a Title IX complaint last September.
In January, the U.S. Department of Education and the federal Title IX Special Investigations Team – a joint DOE and DOJ task force created by Trump – opened investigations into Santa Rosa and the entire CCCAA, part of a sweeping probe targeting 18 institutions across 10 states.
Those investigations are ongoing.
The President Who Chose Sides Against Her Own Students
Here's where it gets worse.
Once the complaint went public, Santa Rosa President Dr. Angélica Garcia organized a rally before a volleyball game.
Not for the three women whose rights had been violated.
For the transgender athlete they'd complained about.
Garcia – who was appointed by Biden to a White House arts committee in 2023 and describes her mission as disrupting "institutionalized racism, classism, sexism" – handed out packets to attendees declaring the school a "gender inclusive closet."
"The president of our school had a rally to support our male athlete," Gracie Shaw alleged, with Madison Shaw and Galli corroborating the account.
After that, teammates created separate group chats without the three women.
Meetings were held they weren't invited to.
"We were completely ostracized," Gracie Shaw said. "We were left in the dark."

Two students who set up a campus table with a sign reading "We are Christians, ask us anything" were being shouted down as hateful when someone in the crowd recognized Gracie Shaw and Galli.
Two students then allegedly began recording them without consent.
The only time administrators showed concern was during investigative interviews after the complaint became national news – interviews the women describe as pressure campaigns designed to get them to recant.
"They kept pushing the same questions on us trying to get a different answer and trying to make us say something that wasn't true," Galli said.
All semester long, when the three women told their coach they didn't feel safe, nothing happened.
When federal investigators came calling, suddenly the school had resources and counseling options available.
California Keeps Defying Trump While Young Women Pay the Tab
The Trump administration has already sued California over trans athletes in school sports.
Attorney General Pam Bondi put it plainly when the lawsuit was filed: Newsom himself called it "deeply unfair" – and it is also illegal under federal law.

California refused to comply anyway.
The CCCAA – governing dozens of junior colleges across California – still runs on the one-year testosterone rule, which means every female athlete at every one of those schools is playing under the same conditions that destroyed Madison Shaw's future.
That's not a loophole — it's a deliberate policy choice to put gender ideology ahead of every female athlete in the California junior college system.
Dr. García got a Biden White House appointment and a campus rally.
Madison Shaw is working three jobs.
And the three women who had the nerve to say something out loud are still waiting for California to care.
