South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham is a RINO who belongs to the George Bush/Mitt Romney/Nikki Haley wing of the Republican Party.
Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz belongs to the America First wing of the GOP that Graham hates.
But Lindsey Graham left Sean Hannity speechless when he dropped a truth bomb about Matt Gaetz’s nomination for Attorney General.
Donald Trump immediately went to work filling his cabinet positions following his landslide victory over Kamala Harris last Tuesday.
During his first term, Trump said he was overwhelmed with all the appointments and ended up listening to the politicians and businessmen around him on who to select.
But Trump said he has learned from his mistakes and will be appointing loyal allies to fill his cabinet during a second term.
So far Trump has selected individuals to fill a number of positions, including Tom Homan as border czar, Elise Stefanik (R-NY) as U.N. Ambassador, Pete Hegseth as Defense Secretary, Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security, and several others.
But Trump set off a firestorm on Wednesday when he announced Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz as his choice for Attorney General.
“It is my Great Honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The Attorney General of the United States,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice,” he continued. “Few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System.”
Trump promised that Gaetz would “end the Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans’ badly shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department” because “he is a Champion for the Constitution and the Rule of Law.”
Of course, Gaetz was one of Trump’s biggest supporters in Congress.
Gaetz led the ousting of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker when he filed his motion to vacate in 2023.
He also served on the House Judiciary Committee.
But Democrats and Never-Trumpers flat-out hate Matt Gaetz and are promising to keep him from becoming Attorney General.
Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy predicted that Gaetz would not be confirmed by the Senate.
“I think the choices are very good, except one,” McCarthy said. “Gaetz won’t get confirmed, everybody knows that.”
But South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham put jaws on the floor when he defended Gaetz in an appearance on Fox News Channel with Sean Hannity.
“I’m telling my Democratic friends, elections have consequences whether you like it or not,” Graham said. “You are accusing Matt of doing the very thing that you did – Matt Gaetz didn’t lie under oath, Matt Gaetz did not sign FISA warrants that were based on Russian disinformation, so we’re going to give the President a chance to put his people forward.”
“To every Republican, give Matt a chance,” he added.
Lindsey Graham and Matt Gaetz don’t see eye to eye on hardly any issues.
But Graham is standing up for Gaetz and encouraging his colleagues to give him a shot.
